Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,

Bells on bob-tail ring,

A day or two ago,
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright

Jingle Bells, originally entitled “One Horse Open Sleigh”, is one of the most famous of all the American Christmas songs, and was originally written for Thanksgiving.

Its author and composer was a minister called James Lord Pierpoint. He composed the song way back in 1857 for children attending his Boston Sunday School to celebrate Thanksgiving. The song was so popular with the parishioners that it was repeated at Christmas, and continues to be heard even to this day.
