Hi Guys,
I thought I would share the lyrics to, what for me is, the most moving of all the Christmas Carols.
The origins of this Christmas Carol go back to the nineteenth century. It was 1816 and an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr wrote a poem. On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf the story is told that the organ at St. Nicholas’ Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night, which was then known in its native tongue as Stille Nacht, to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was composed for accompaniment by a guitar and its simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass. Silent Night is the most famous Christmas carol of all time and also my favourite.
Silent Night
Silent night, holy nightAll is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
A beautiful song, it never fails to bring a tear to my eye when I hear it sang.
As a post script to this Blog, we have a new addition to the family as of yesterday.
Our little family of doggies have been joined by our latest little puppy, Bradley, a Blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is only seven weeks old and I will be posting photos of him and the other pups over the holidays, along with some festive photos of the family.
Until next time have fun!
